spring yes, winter is just about leaving now, and the sun is beginning to shine more, and heat is beginning to drape the city of los angeles once again. there are many new places in town being opened and new people coming to live here. even more little animals and birds are around, and those insects are beginning to buzz. but also, new year, new fashion, so hit the designer shops and splash your cash on the lastest designer gear. treat yourself.

She was early again. She sat at a table at some chic little cafe, stuffing her face with crackers to pass the time. Aria was due shortly, she knew. She had considered bringing Thomas with her, but he was still in school, and her mother would have a cow if she dared take him out. So, she was alone, drinking a glass of water, legs crossed and hair curled. Her shirt was a light green, scoop neck, but not showing that much cleavage, fitting snug. A strand of pearls was situated around her neck, and on her bottom half she sported a pair of dark wash True Religion jeans-- one of her only designer pairs. "Dressed to impress" is what she called it. She just thought since she was here in Hollywood, she should look her best. And she could never know-- she might run into a possible agent. But that was all beside the point. She was here to eat with Aria. To catch up. Girl talk. And she was looking quite forward to it.

Aria parked her blue Mustang GT convertible about a block away from the cafe that she was due to meet Lorelei at for lunch. She was just wearing jeans - not even designer label, just jeans she had picked up at American Eagle, and a baby doll cami. She hadn't dressed up too terribly much, because she still wanted to give off the air of being entirely casual, not to mention that she was volunteering at the Children's Theatre later that afternoon.
Her long auburn curls blew in the slight breeze, and she quickened her pace. She was always exactly on time to everything, often waiting to knock until the clock hit the mark exactly. She lived her life with little quirks, and that was one of them.
Aria went into the cafe and immediately spotted Lorelei, smiling as she nestled her sunglasses in her curls. She made her way to the table, slipping into a chair gracefully.
"You look wonderful today, Lorelei," she said softly, scanning the menu even though she knew that she would order water to drink. It was just one of the little things that she did to keep her weight down.

Right back atcha, she said, grinning. She picked up her own menu, glancing down at the salads. She made a mental note of the name of her dish, and set the menu back down. She felt slightly embarrassed for always being early, but it was just Lorelei being Lorelei. She was always very early or very late. As her mother said, she had gotten that for her father. That and bitchiness, apparantly, but she would beg to differ. That was defnitely her mother's forte'. And how are you? she asked, leaning forward intently, smiling. She made another mental note to do this more often. Just go to lunch. It was nice, casual. Convenient.

Aria blushed. "Oh, thank you. But let me assure you, this is entirely casual. I'm volunteering at the Children's Theatre this afternoon. They're doing Annie, which of course I did years ago, only they're doing with all kids." She rolled her eyes, pretending to be annoyed, but really flattered. She was the local Annie expert, since she had played Annie in LA's version of Hollywood when she was eleven. The show had run for a year, and it had been super fun. That had been when Aria knew that she would forever be an actress.
"I'm good today," said Aria, placing her napkin in her lap. "What about you? How's Thomas?" She grinned, her cheek dimpling as she did. He sounded like so much fun. Sometimes she wished she had a younger sibling to dote on the same way that Christian doted on her. But then she knew that she would never change who Christian was.

She grinned, her mouth widening to let out an appreciative, Awww! How adorable! She took a sip of water. I love working with kids. They're so real, you know? They're not afraid to mess up. She tucked a strand of dark hair behind her ear, watching Aria roll her eyes. She didn't think anything of it, though. I bet you'll be great with them, she said positively. She rattled off an order to the waiter, who wrote it down feverently, his dark hair falling in his eyes. She waited for Aria to order before continuing. Thomas is good. He's at school. I would've taken him out, but my mother... She didn't finish, rolling her eyes grimly. What about Christian? she said, her voice slightly teasing. Is he out partying? On a date? She actually was curious to learn more about her brother. She knew little about him, and it got on her nerves. Lorelei was quite nosy, she couldn't help it.

Aria nodded. "I love the kids. They remind me of myself at that age - not that it was so very long ago. But I love how they'll do anything I tell them to, and not worry about who gets to be center stage the longest, or that I have Sammy and Janey playing siblings when one is white and the other is black. They have imaginations." She loved how accepting the kids were, and how they didn't try to be glory hogs, for the most part.
"You know, I almost think that Thomas would be better off with you..." mused Aria after she had ordered her meal. She played with one curl as she did, then stretched it out and let it spring back to its original position.
"Christian is good. He's probably off somewhere getting into mischief." Aria rolled her eyes. Her brother was entirely too good looking and witty for his own good.

Kids are the best. she agreed, smiling thankfully at the waiter as he placed her salad in front of her. I remember when I was younger, I was such a prima donna. I thought I was just so excellent. She rolled her eyes, embarrassed. But, she had been a child. It was all acceptable, she guessed.
You think? I don't know. He and my mother fight sometimes, but I don't know if I would want to take him away from her... Her brow furrowed, and she paused, chewing slowly. She thought of what would happen if she went to court, hideous images fighting into her brain, her mother in tears, Thomas unhappy, the case all over the news... But maybe he would be better off. Have more fun. Pursue his dreams. She shrugged.

"You were a prima donna?" Asked Aria, a little surprised. She hadn't expected that from Lorelei. For her part, Aria had never been a prima donna, though she had kind of stolen the spotlight. But she had enjoyed having people fawn over her. That had been the reason her mother started having her volunteer at the Rape Crisis and Child Abuse Center.
"Do they fight a lot? Because if so, Thomas would definitely be better off with you," said Aria, taking a sip of the water the waiter had brought back to her. She and her parents didn't fight a lot, mainly because she hadn't seen them in a while, and because Aria really didn't fight with anybody. She and Christian had done their fair share of fighting when they were younger, but never anything serious.

Lorelei shrugged. I liked to think I was great. I loved the attention. I felt, well, special. She too sipped her water, contemplating her past a little more. Her mother had never been much of a spoiling type oif person, so the praise she received at school made her feel wonderful. She basked in it, reveled in it even. She soaked up every bit, and sometimes it went to her head. She was a kid, she couldn't help it. At least that was what she told herself.
I don't know, she said, frowning. She felt strange, not knowing all aspects of her little brother's family life. She felt obligated to know such things. She felt like a bad sister for not know. She shrugged. I'll ask him later today. It's our day at the park, she stated, tugging at the corners of her napkin to get rid of the wrinkles. Her salad was slightly dry, so she drizzled the tangy vinagrette over it.
What about your family? Do you ever fight? She highly doubted it, though. They seemed like the type of people who got along most of the time.

Aria nodded. "I know that feeling. I loved feeling like there was something that only I could do." She had always felt like being in the shadow of the Boy Genius made her less special. Luckily for her, she had discovered her special talent at a young age. Acting had consumed her, and there was no way she could stop doing it.
"You have a day where you take him to the park? That's really sweet." Aria smiled to herself, glad to see that there was some decency left in the world. After all, most families didn't talk at all these days, and here was Lorelei taking time out of her busy schedule to take her little brother to the park.
Aria wrinkled her nose. "My family fights occasionally, but not much. I mean, we get along pretty well. Mom and Dad dote on me and Christian, and Christian and I get along splendidly now that we're growing up. But when we were little we weren't so harmonious."

She took a bite of her salad, nodding as she chewed. Every Thurdsay I pick him up from school, she said, and then we go to the park. Walk around, throw a ball, talk. All that stuff. She broke off a piece of bread, trying to eat it as delicately as posssible. It was hard, and getting her mouth around it was difficult. When Thomas was born, she continued, I didn't like him. I was only seven or eight, and he smelled most of the time. She laughed, thinking about it. And my mother mostly paid attention to him, not me. And I resented him for it. Then I got older and grasped the concept, and realized how cute he was. She laughed again, remembering showing him off to her classmates. They'd all been very jealous, fawning over his little hands and feet. It had been pleasant, actually. She'd even enjoyed herself.

Aria ate delicately, using the skills she had learned over the years. Her mother was big on manners, so she had gotten to be quite good at acting politely in company. She remembered guests being quite impressed with her and Christian when they were younger, commenting on how the Jamison children appeared to be better at behaving properly than adults.
Aria laughed when Lorelei described Thomas. "It must be an oldest sibling thing. Christian wasn't fond of me when I was little, either. He and I are six years apart." Those six years had seemed like an eternity when she was younger, but now they didn't seem that long. After all, now they were both out of the house and living on their own.
